6: Awakening Haikus
Three, On the Roadtrip Out West
Georgia to Portland
But somewhere in Iowa
God met us halfway
- - - -
Fishing our dinner
We got no no no nothing
A hit! Yank! We eat!
- - - -
Iowa's corn hushed;
In Kentucky I'd told him.
He'd had no idea.

You may have noticed I wrote these with pronounced syllables, not written ones. "Idea" for these purposes is two syllables; I wrote it with three at first and it didn't read right. As the final syllable, the "ea" seems to work as one. Blasphemy perhaps. But it's more phonetic, which is so much of the point to me.
